The Morning After - August 26, 2009 Meeting

Hi Everybody,

If you didn’t make it to our gathering last week you missed seeing Vickie’s beautiful table runners. She gave us some tips on variations and how to do it. I got some great ideas and I’m planning several for the upcoming holidays. I’m hoping Vickie will post pictures of the runners that she brought (hint, hint!!). So if you didn’t make it you can still see her work! She also provided me with a couple of the patterns that we all liked. I’ll be scanning those and sending them out this upcoming long weekend!
Carol brought some adorable Halloween runners as well!! Dale showed us her shopping spree fabric from Washington and her progress on Shirley’s quilt (can’t wait to see this one finished)!

Nancy showed us the bag she made with a utility type screen material that was trimmed up with the fabric of her choice (see picture). Meanwhile….Jennifer was sewing away on her first quilt! She made great progress and I’m sorry I didn’t take pictures to share because it’s very cool. Next time!!!! We are going to be better about taking pictures!

We also decided on a blog name since our gathering, and thanks to Vickie we now have our Needle Nutz blog started!! We’ll be using this now for posting project pictures and meeting times. You can email photos to Vickie or me if you have anything you would like to see on our site!

And speaking of next time - we haven’t nailed down a date or place yet, but there is a plan in the works and I’m hoping everyone will enjoy and participate in! As always if you have a project you want to work on bring it! Or if you just want to share—we want to see it (that’s at least half the fun).

Nancy has agreed to teach us how to make the bags she showed us like the ones above. I’m going to make up some kits, so all you will need is the fabric you want to trim your bag with. This is a great utility type bag - it’s light weight, you can make it virtually any size, personalize it to make it yours and they go together really fast. I’m thinking we could finish them in one evening. I want one to carry a finished quilt in and it would be great to carry supplies in for a quilting class. But I can think of all kinds of uses and sizes that would be practical! Let me know if you’re interested in hosting our next meeting. Dates, times and location will be posted on our blog well in advance ~ Until then.....

Happy quilting,
Linda
